Jonas Benjamin Nyberg went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2006 at his home in Joshua Tree, CA.  He was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, i.e bone cancer in October 2002.  Jonas was born at USC Mediacl Center, Los Angeles on January 9th 1988 to his parents Lennart and Barbro Nyberg of Swedish decent.  Jonas is survived by his parents and his sister Stacy.

After numerous chemotherapy sessions at Loma Linda  Children's Hospital and proton treatment, as well as surgeries at UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles.  Jonas was told in September 2006 by doctors that he was terminally ill. With a smile on his face he told his Dad: " Don't cry, everything is in the Lord's hands." He vigorously fought his sickness without focusing on his many tumors.

Jonas Nyberg served as  Chaplain in Scout Troop 83, Yucca Valley and participated in community services as Special Olympics, parades and clean up projects. He was recognized by the Honorary Chariman of the International Boy Scout Movement the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf when he became an Eagle Scout in 2002.  Presiden Bush sent him a letter of encouragement.

Despite his sickness he was only a few credits away from graduating at Yucca Valley High School by having completed a full year as a junior at the school site and that as an Honor student. The rest of the time he was taught at home or at the hospital by a Morongo Unified School District teacher.

"Jonas was honored with a silent minute and a graduation certificate along with a graduation cap and gown that would have been worn by him at the graduation ceremony at Yucca Valley High School, CA June 16, 2006"  as quoted from Hi-Desert Star Newspaper June 17, 2006.

Jonas was a strong believer. He told his peers: "Don't smoke, don't do drugs, and don't live together without being married. He was not ashamed of the Gospel.  His winning smile and laughter were out of the ordinary.  There was no deceit in him.  He was obedient and a total joy to his parents.  It took 17 years of marriage  before Jonas showed up.  Jonas had a special heart for handicapped kids and people with hurts.

Jonas became 18 years,  4 months and 4 days before his promotion to Glory.
